Day 2 Firedrill

Day 2 in my new role can only be described as a fire drill, I went to sleep last night with a few meetings and some time set to make some plans and start doing my new job.  Nope, Nope on a rope.  8 hours of meetings were added with 2 red hot customers, that no one else can help.  and the big boss asking if I "have someone to cover a meeting tomorrow".  I know this is expected, but being down people is difficult.  My old brain is "I can handle this technical meeting" but I know I need to delegate, but to whom.....  Knowing your staff is super important, not only their skill sets but also if they have any cycles to give.  I know that when my boss asked I jumped even if I had zero cycles.  Need to be aware and know things that people are not telling me.

Closing out day 2, I now have access to my staff's HR stuff so I can start the process of creating a req for the backfill for my open spot.  I know this will be my first direct-hire, and opportunity to learn the process that we have here at VMware.

I had to write my bio today to allow my boss to put out an announcement e-mail.
